Dennis Maupin, 74, passed away in Albuquerque, N.M., on Oct. 4, 2018. He was born in Aberdeen, Wash., on April 28, 1944, to Mary Anna Christine (Felt) Maupin and Mearl Maupin.

Dennis graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1962 and joined the U.S. Army on Sept. 20, 1962. Dennis was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C., and was later assigned to duty stations in St. Louis, Mo., and the Dominican Republic. During his career he was awarded with the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Parachute Badge. Dennis was honorably discharged on Aug. 30, 1965.

After separating from the military, he returned to Grays Harbor and worked several jobs (Evans Products, Bigelow Chevrolet and Metropolitan Life) before taking over the family business, “Maupin’s Electronics.” Once it came time to close the business, Dennis went to work at Radio Shack until health issues forced an early retirement.

He was a longtime member of the Aberdeen Elks Lodge #593, serving as Exalted Ruler from 1989 to 1990, and was also a member of the Aberdeen VFW Post #224.

Dennis was passionate about golfing, enjoyed electronics, ham radios and loved to dance and karaoke.

He married Kristie Bigelow in 1966 and they had daughters Michelle (Maupin) Barre and Melanie (Maupin) Stratton, both of Cosmopolis, Wash. They later divorced and he married Carolyn Oliver in 1985. He and Carolyn had three more daughters, Kimberly Maupin of Cosmopolis, Ashley Maupin of Wenatchee and Kerry Maupin of Elma before divorcing.

Dennis is also survived by his brothers Willard Maupin of Bremerton, Wash., and Bruce Maupin of Redmond, Wash., seven grandsons, six granddaughters and his first great-grandchild due next April along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Terry Maupin.

Dennis met his fiancé Angie Chavez in Aberdeen and the two moved to Jemez Pueblo, N.M., in 2005. He lived with Angie, her family and his faithful dog “Mitsy” until his passing.

There will be a celebration of Dennis’ life with military honors at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Aberdeen Elks Lodge, 1712 S. Boone St., Aberdeen, WA 98520.
