Douglas Clark Reed, 67, passed away Sept. 29, 2021, at his home.

Doug was born May 4, 1954, in South Bend , Washington to Gracie King. He later moved and was raised in Amanda Park, Washington with his parents Loyal Clark and Kathleen (Kitty) Reed.

Doug was a high production logger, skilled at various equipment operations, retiring as a shovel operator.

Doug was an extremist at everything from his bicycling, snow skiing and kite surfing. Doug introduced Lake Quinault to the Hobie Cat and brought the NW Hobie Championship, which is still hosted by the Rainforest, to Lake Quinault. This later qualified him and Paul Maybe to sail in the Multi Hull Sailboat Championships known as the Alter Cup. He competed all over the U.S. and Canada, winning numerous championships. Although he was no longer competing we still managed to sail on his favorite, Lake Quinault, this past summer.

He then went to racing the hydroplane. He raced a Purple C Stock Hydro. He competed with the American Power Boat Association, Whidbey Island Roostertails and the Seattle Outboard Association, later moving to the professional category piloting a 250 cc hydroplane reaching speeds over 100 mph. In the meantime he also loved racing the canoes and eventually built his own canoe, naming it after his dad, “Loyal C.”

He enjoyed hosting barbecues with friends, enjoying the view, company and his spoiled dogs.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Mel Reed.

He is survived by his fiance, Stacey Colton at the family home, Megan Colton, Amanda Park; Tyler (Hannah) Colton, Germany; half-brother, Jeff Davis, his biological mother, Gracie Wilmingham, Pasadena three nephews and two nieces.

There will be a celebration and barbecue and boats, Doug-style this coming summer.

He is greatly missed. Any donations can be made to the Lake Quinault Fire Department.
