Eleanor Mary DeLaurier (née Miller), a beloved mother, aunt, and grandmother, a gardener, an outdoorsperson and a sports enthusiast from Oakville, passed away on Oct. 25, 2018. Born on Oct. 20, 1923, to Orville Miller and Lydia Miller (née Bernhagen) in Center, N.D., she lived in Edgeley, N.D., before moving with her family to Washington state in 1932.

On Sept. 3, 1944, she married Kenneth DeLaurier in San Diego, Calif. They returned to Washington, had two sons (James in 1945 and Lyle in 1947), and finally settled in Oakville where she lived the rest of her life.

She enjoyed the outdoors and held a special love for gardening and hunting with her family. For more than 40 years, she picked blueberries and served as a field boss at Drew’s Blueberry Farm near Rochester, giving her the satisfaction of working with both children and plants. A big sports fan, she particularly liked watching the Gonzaga University men’s basketball team and the Seattle Mariners. She also made sure to keep the officials honest in any game that involved her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, James and her siblings, Marian, Dorothy, Esther, George, Laura, and Arthur. She is survived by her son, Lyle and his wife, Leona; her grandson, Mark DeLaurier; her granddaughter, Carly DeLaurier-Flanigan and Carly’s husband, Patrick Flanigan; her nephews Paul Leach and Chuck Leach; her other nephew, Russ Kenser and his wife, Kathy; and numerous other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, please donate in her name to the Oakville Fire Department.
