Eugene “Patrick” Reid, age 76, walked through heaven’s gate on Oct. 9, 2024, after a long battle of lung disease.
Pat was born on July 25, 1948, in Bend, Oregon to Eugene Raymond Reid and Agnes Florence (Sherman) Reid. His family moved to Hoquiam when he was a child. He attended catholic school at Our Lady of Good Help Parish during his grade school years and attended high school at Hoquiam High School. HHS is where he met his beloved wife of 53 years, Connie Louise Campbell.
Pat was a member of the Retail Clerks Union, retiring from Safeway after 30 years of employment. While not working, Pat loved to hunt and fish. He could tell many hunting stories for hours, talking about all of his adventures. Some of his most cherished times were spent hunting with his son, grandchildren and his brothers. He especially loved going to elk camp in Oregon and the guided moose hunt in Canada. He also loved working in his yard and flowerbeds, always keeping them perfectly groomed. He even received “Yard of the Month” several times one year.
Pat was a very loving, kind and compassionate person that always had a shoulder to lean on. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, give advice or just listen.
Pat is survived by his daughter Tricia Parsons (Karl) of Montesano and his son Keith Reid (Paula) of Cosmopolis. He has six grandchildren, Danielle Andrews (Zac) of Hoquiam, Amber Carner (Zack) of Elma, John Ramsey (Cheri) of Shelton, Miranda Adams (HB) of Rochester, John Skipper (Ivalesse) of Olympia and Jordan Skipper (Jackie) of Hoquiam. He also has two sisters-in-law Karen Vlach of Spanaway and Sue King (Rick) of Port Orchard and a brother-in-law Gary Campbell (Lori) of Kansas City. He has many nieces and nephews. And we can’t forget his beloved dog Coco.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Connie, he was preceded in death by his brothers and their wives John and Leta, Rick and Young Cha, Jerry and Mike and Jackie as well as a sister-in-law Carolyn Rought, a brother-in-law Larris Vlach and a nephew, “Little” John Reid.
Pat loved to make rhymes within a conversation, waiting for you to respond with a rhyme. This would continue until neither person could think of any more.
Today I saw a deer
It was so near
It saw me too
But I was singing the blues
My life with you
Will always be true
Pat “Pappy” “Pops” was a son, brother, father, uncle, grandpa and a friend who touched many lives and made many memories, loving everyone the best he could. He is now at peace and back into the loving arms of his parents, brothers and his wife.
He will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. He leaves us with one of his favorite sayings:
“IT IS WHAT IT IS”
A celebration of life will be in the spring and will be announced at a later date.
Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
