Longtime Hoquiam resident Fred Milton Abbie passed away at Grays Harbor Community Hospital on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016. He was 77. Fred was born June 16, 1939 to Milton and Grace (Coville) Abbie in Vernon, Conn. Later they moved to Broad Brook, Conn. where he was raised.
In 1995 Fred moved to the Grays Harbor area and met Janice (Skinner) Abbie. On Nov. 15, 1999 Fred married Abbie at the Aberdeen Eagles Club.
Fred was a man of labor. Prior to moving to Grays Harbor he worked on a tobacco farm, for Farmoil, Inc. and Connecticut’s own Broad Brook Fire Department. He most recently worked for Black Forestry as a Slash Burner.
He was active in many local organizations including Special Olympics, The Eagle’s Club and The American Legion. He was also a member of Light and Life Community Church in Hoquiam. In his downtime Fred enjoyed bicycle riding, listening to his scanner and picking up cans for recycle.
Fred is survived by his wife Janice Abbie of Hoquiam; son Daniel Abbie of New Bedford, Mass.; daughters Cindy Green of Cary Plantation, Maineand Heidi Abbie of Orwigsburg, Pa. Along with his brother Roy Abbie of South Windsor, Conn.; three grandchildren Raymond, Jessie and Nathan; and six great-grandchildren Logan, Sydney, Aubrey, Raymond, Hunter, and Rylan.
He was preceded in death by his parents Milton and Grace Abbie; grandfather Emery Abbie; uncle Bill Abbie; and aunt Lil Abbie.
A Celebration of Fred’s Life is being planned and will be announced when details become available. Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen is honored to assist the family.
