George G. Rogers, 96, of Iliff, Colorado passed away Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023 in Sterling, Colorado. Graveside services with Military Honors will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22 at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
George was born on July 6, 1927, in Aberdeen, Washington to George L. and Thelma Rogers. He was the eldest of four sons. He attended Weatherwax High School in Aberdeen, Washington. In 1945, at the age of 17 years old, George entered the Merchant Marines in San Francisco, California. He then went on to serve the United States Coast Guard, on three different voyages until he was 18 years old. He then joined the U.S. Army and served in Tokyo, Japan until 1948. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and Army of Occupational Medal Japan.
George married Doris M. Hyndman-Leamy on May 17, 1958 in Tenino, Washington. They were married for 54 years until her passing. They raised their six children in Hoquiam, Washington. George enjoyed his daily walks and clam digging while living on the Harbor in Washington. He was an active member of the Hoquiam VFW Post 1135 and 252 Fraternal Order of Eagles. He worked at ITT Rayonier for 45 years as a Pulp Mill Engineer until he retired in 1995.
After retiring in 1995, he moved next to his daughter in Iliff, Colorado and lived on their family farm where he continued his daily walks on the county road. George enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors while out on his daily walks. George, and his wife Doris, also purchased a home in Yuma, Arizona where they would spend every Fall/Winter, enjoying time with friends from all around the country.
He is preceded in death by his wife Doris M. Rogers, his parents George and Thelma, brothers Donald, William and James Rogers, son Michael D. Rogers and daughter Kathleen R. Simons.
George is survived by Jeanne Krupp of Tacoma, Washington, Edward Rogers of Iliff, Carolyn (J. David) Hernandez of Iliff, Thomas (Ann) Rogers of Denver, 14 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
