George Gene Bishop, age 82, a longtime resident of Copalis Beach, died on Dec. 13, 2022, at Swedish Hospital, First Hill. Mr. Bishop was born in Aberdeen on May 30, 1940, to parents Paul Mayberry Bishop Sr. and Anna Marie (Korinko) Bishop. He was raised in Copalis Beach and graduated from Moclips High School in 1958. After graduating he married Loretta, his high-school sweetheart.
He worked for Ferguson Shake for 20 years, then became a dispatcher for Grays Harbor Transit, retiring in 2007. He had been 25 years with the Copalis Beach Fire Department and had coached Little League Baseball for 20 years.
He loved hunting, fishing, clam digging, walking on the beach with his wife collecting shells and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild.
Surviving relatives include his two sons, Andy Bishop (Michal) of the Wishkah Valley and Tim Bishop of Aberdeen; a daughter, Michelle Bishop of Federal Way; one granddaughter, Brandi Bishop-Emard (Marcus) of Aberdeen; three grandsons: Nick Bishop of Copalis Beach, Chris Bishop of Malone and Zack Bishop of Malone; great-grandson, Alaric “Al” Emard of Aberdeen; a sister, Shirley Valentine (Irvin) of Ocean City and two brothers: Paul Bishop Jr. of Copalis Beach and Calvin Bishop (Karen) of Olympia.
He is preceded in death by both his parents Anna and Paul, his wife Loretta, son David and brothers Donald and Narle Bishop.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
