One year ago, at 94 years young, Georgia Scott passed peacefully at her Aberdeen, Washington, home just as the Covid-19 pandemic was ramping up and all celebrations were halted. Waiting to see how this would play out, it was decided to wait for summer to have a celebration and full obituary. Unfortunately, it is still not possible for an exceptionally large gathering. A year later, the family wishes to acknowledge the anniversary of Georgia’s death with her full obituary to share with her family and friends.

Georgia was born in Walla Walla, Washington, to Bryon G. and Zella M. (Hoon) Fitzpatrick. Along with brothers Elmer and Darrell, they moved to Aberdeen, Washington, during her high school years. As a graduate from J.M. Weatherwax (Aberdeen) High School class of 1943, Georgia participated in many activities and clubs and was drum majorette for the marching band. She especially liked being an usherette at the D&R Theatre, where she fell in love with “Gone with the Wind” and watched it 50 times! She also worked at the Union Pacific Railroad offices during WWII. In 1947, she married Henry (Hank) Scott, who passed in 2014. They were married for 67 years and raised four children.

Georgia worked as a bookkeeper for Brower’s Women’s Apparel in the mid 1960s and for the Aberdeen School District over 29 years as a para-educator. She also spent many summers lovingly tutoring many elementary students. She loved working with all the children and staff at McDermoth Elementary. She often accompanied the music program events at McDermoth as well as the annual all-city concerts for the district combined elementary schools.

As a 70-year member of Beta Sigma Phi, Georgia held many chapter and city council offices. Her Beta sisters were very dear to her. She was a member of the Aberdeen First Presbyterian Church and was active in the bell choir for many years. Having a passion for reading and books, Georgia was an early member of the Friends of the Aberdeen Library and was especially interested in Washington State history. Her collection of books on that subject was acknowledged as reference material in Christopher Chapman’s “Reading Guide to the Olympic Peninsula, A Traveler’s Companion to Highlights and Landmarks.”

Georgia cherished her large extended family, especially her grandchildren. Many fun times were had with special memories made together with them all. Holidays were especially memorable for everyone with lots of good food, games, laughter, and love with extended family and friends. At Christmas, the house was beautifully decorated, and Georgia would play Christmas carols on her baby grand piano. Having the gift of playing by ear, she would transpose the music to a lower key so her alto-voiced daughters could sing the melody.

You could always count on Georgia to be up for a trip to the beach to fly a kite or just walk along to see what shells or other interesting things could be found. She loved going to visit her brother, Elmer, and sister-in-law, Barbara’s, Waldport beach get away or their Salem, Oregon, home. Always loving an adventure, one of her favorites was a trip to Park City, Utah, where she rode in a hot air balloo, and drove a special sled down the steep and curvy Alpine Slide at Park City Mountain Resort one summer. Over the years, Georgia had many interests including stitching with her “knit-wits” friends and attending local theater and music concerts, particularly the GH Symphony, the Aberdeen Elks Band, 7th Street Theatre movies and events. She loved watching televised ice-skating competitions and the winter Olympic games.

Georgia is survived by her children: Charisse Anderson, Aberdeen; Claire Sagen, Bellevue; Paula Reisman (Mark), Ferndale; and Kevin (Carol) Scott, Medford, Oregon; grandchildren: Kellie Sagen (Travis Patterson), Lake Stevens; Ryan Stouffer, Issaquah; Gretchen Anderson (James), Bellingham; Justin Scott and Sarah Scott, Olympia area; and great-grandchildren Taylor, Eleanor, Henry and Hugh Anderson, all of Bellingham. Georgia is also survived by her brother, Darrell Fitzpatrick (Monroe), sister-in-law, Barbara Fitzpatrick, Portland, Oregon along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special “adopted” daughters: Melissa Emberley (Gary), Aberdeen and Cherylee Chapman, (Christopher), Woodinville.

Thank you to everyone who have expressed their love and sympathy the past year and special thanks to daughter Charisse for being both Hank and Georgia’s caregiver over the last several years. It was a true blessing for all.
