Glen Alfred Bailey, 91, a long-standing Grays Harbor resident, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023, at Harbor Regional Health in Aberdeen, Washington.
Glen was born on July 26, 1931, to parents Arlo Bailey, and Selma (Batchelor) Bailey. He had four children: Randy, Joni, Glenda and Richard. He was born and raised in Kelso, Washington, graduating from Kelso High School in 1951. After graduation, he joined the Navy and was stationed at Port Hueneme, California. Glen left the Navy in 1957. He then worked in the machine room at Weyerhaeuser and retired at the age of 56.
Glen was a man of all trades. He could do electrical, plumbing, car repair, building, etc., and used those skills to help many people. Glen enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He raced motorcycles, winning many trophies and loved rock crawling.
He traveled to various places with friends and family. This became one of his biggest enjoyments after retirement. Glen has owned 100 cars throughout his lifetime, the classics being amongst his favorite. His 100th purchase was his dream car, a 1957 Chevy Bel-Air. He was the oldest hotrodder in “The Test of Times” car club, based out of Aberdeen, and he loved to be part of the festivities. Glen was always active and involved in his community participating in fundraising, charities and parades.
Glen volunteered at PAWS of Grays Harbor, and helped build the Little Hoquiam Railroad which is still on display at the Polson Museum in Hoquiam, Washington. Glen always had a smile on his face, he loved to have a good time, tell stories and had a great sense of humor. He was known to play a trick from time to time, but he had a kind and helpful heart, and will be dearly missed.
Glen is preceded in death by his parents: Arlo and Selma Bailey; his son, Randy Nicholson; sisters, Noreen (Bob) West and Wanda (Chuck) Green; and son-in-law, Donald Fairchild.
Glen is survived by his children, Joni (Jerry) Welch, Glenda Fairchild and Richard (Tashona) Bailey; grandchildren: Karlie (Jeremy) Fairchild, Rhon Miller, Christy Miller, Joshua (Tessica) Welch, Jessica (Brandon) Marek Christopher and Owen Nicholson; several great-grandchildren; a niece,and multiple nephews.
Private family services are being scheduled.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen, Washington.
