Helen Parker Hegg passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017. She was 84. Helen was born on June 6, 1933, in Whittier, N.C. to Troy and Ruby (Gunter) Parker. They lived in Barkers Creek until Helen reached the age of 8. It was then that the family moved to Hoquiam, Wash. and Helen stayed a resident for the next 76 years.
During her life in Grays Harbor Helen represented many companies. Including, but not limited to, Tupperware, Singer, Kaufman Scroggs, Harbor Rug, various Real Estate agencies, local ad insertion on cable TV, Jodesha Broadcasting, The Chamber of Commerce and the Senior Sunset Times.
Helen made it a point to stay active in her community. She was a part of many organizations including; Aberdeen Revitalization Movement and the Hoquiam Development Association. She participated on the steering committee and helped the group complete the requirements to become an official Habitat for Humanity affiliate, she held the President’s seat with Habitat twice. She was instrumental in forming the local Rape and Mental health crisis lines, spending many nights personally manning the phones. Her and a small group of volunteers from KAYO started the 24 hour Cancer Run (Relay for Life) in Grays Harbor. She also enjoyed gardening, camping and was a veracious reader. Helen loved to travel, she walked on the Great Wall of China, seen the Terracotta army and the colorful doors of Ireland were some of her favorite travel memories. Helen loved spending time with her kids and especially her 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Helen is survived by her children Troy (Trisha) Thiessen of Yakima, Craig (Sally) Thiessen of Montesano, Jeff (Kasey) Willis of Montesano, Susan (Bob) Hammer of Montesano, Jennifer (TC) Willis Mabrey of Wenatchee, and Tammy (Rocky) Howard of Montesano; brother Talmadge (Linda) Parker of Hoquiam. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sons Neal Thiessen, Gary Thiessen and her grandson Craig Thiessen Jr.
A Celebration of Helen’s Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 28, 2017, at Harbor City Church, 1700 Cherry St, Aberdeen.
In lieu of flowers the family ask for a donation to be made in her memory to Habitat for Humanity of Grays Harbor.
