Henry Carl Pekola, a longtime Raymond resident, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016 at the Prestige Rehabilitation Center in Centralia; he was 90. Henry was born July 17, 1926 in McCormick, Wash. to Charles and Sophie (Pluta) Pekola.
Henry served in the United States Navy from 1943 until he was honorably discharged in 1947, he was proud of his service to our country. He was a lifetime member of several organizations including Raymond V.F.W. Post #968, Raymond Elks Lodge #1292, Raymond Eagles, 40 Et 8, Frances Grange #666 as well as the American Legion Post #150; and was an active member of the honor guard. Henry was a scout master for Troop 38 and participated in organizing the children’s Easter egg hunt.
Henry worked for Weyerhaeuser until his retirement after 38 years. He loved music and dancing, and enjoyed gardening. He was a lifetime member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
He is survived by his longtime companion Edna Watson, a daughter Judy Jones and a son Donald Pekola, all of Raymond. Other survivors include a grandson James Pekola and a sister Irene Paige of Hoquiam. He was preceded in death by his wife Ellen Pekola in 1992, a grandson Ross Jones, and two sisters Wanda Lignoski and Jennie Sienko.
Funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, 2016 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church with burial to follow at the Fern Hill Cemetery in Menlo where full military honors will be accorded.
