She would later graduate from Grandview High School in 1943. Being that the world was at war, Irma did her best to support the war effort working with the Red Cross in Eastern Washington. She came to the Harbor following the war to help her parents whom had a Swedish Massage Parlor in the Finch Building. She attended Grays Harbor Business College and later worked as a bookkeeper at Whitney’s Oldsmobile.
During this time, Irma met and on Oct. 12, 1946, married William Elmer Loomis in Aberdeen. They moved to a small farm in the Wishkah Valley where Irma raised her eight children. William died on Dec. 7, 2005.
Irma cherished her time on the farm and raising her family. She joined the Home Economics Club at the Wishkah Grange which later transitioned into her accepting a position with the WSU Cooperative Extension office to establish the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program in the area. She also volunteered with the Family Community Leadership program to help young women become better leaders in community, business and government.
She enjoyed working in the garden, growing flowers and baking.
Irma is survived by three sons: William “Bill” and Marguerite Loomis of Centralia, Ronald and Mary Anne Loomis of Montesano, and Glen and Julie Loomis of Wishkah Valley; a daughter, Norma Loomis of Yelm; many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
