“Jake” Harrell Jacob Myers, 72, of Pateros, passed away on April 21, 2017, at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, while listening to “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” by Willie Nelson and holding the hands of his two youngest children.
Jake was born on April 24, 1944, in Tulsa, Okla., to Harrell Enos Myers and Ethel Maude Myers. He grew up in Oklahoma, New Mexico and Washington along with his younger brother, Charles. Jake graduated from Renton High School in 1962 after receiving credit for working at a local grocery store throughout his senior year, which he did in order to support his family as the oldest son after medical emergencies plagued his parents.
Jake served as a Radioman in the U.S. Coast Guard for several years after high school before returning to retail grocery. He married his wife, Lisa on March 24, 1989, in a home they owned outside of Shelton for more than 30 years.
Jake worked in retail grocery for most of his life, owning multiple businesses throughout Washington, but was most well-known as the owner and founder of Everybody’s Super Supermarkets in Elma and Raymond. He finally retired in 2016, selling his stores and moving to his dream home in the hills outside of Pateros in Eastern Washington. Jake was a true patriot and lived the American Dream of being a successful businessman working his way up from box-boy to owner. He gave back to the community including serving as a Reserve Police Officer for Elma in the 1980’s, sponsoring the Everybody’s Kid’s Day at the County Fair and supporting the Wounded Warrior Project in getting disabled vets out to hunt. Jake’s favorite hobbies included spending time with his wife, family, and friends, as well as his dog; hunting, gold-plating guns, collecting western memorabilia, listening to old country music, riding quads on his property, and sharing his knowledge and experience in martial arts.
Jake is survived by his wife, Lisa and his four children Jeffrey (Monica), Paul (Tanice), Rebecca and Jacob (Julie); his two step-children Heather Otto and Chris Parshall; as well as nine grandchildren, and his beloved dog, Okie. He was predeceased by his father Harrell, mother Ethel, and brother Charles.
A small gathering for friends and family will be held in his home in Pateros on Sunday, May 28, 2017, starting at 2 p.m., for sharing of memories and the spreading of his ashes. For any additional information, please contact his daughter, Rebecca. The family appreciates Barnes Funeral Home of Brewster for helping with the details and arrangements.
