James “Jim” Arthur Clinton of Hoquiam, Washington passed away March 4, 2025, at St. Peter Hospital after losing his battle with cancer. James was born on Oct. 13, 1964, in Coos Bay, Oregon to Austin Riley Clinton and Geraldine Marie (Martin) Clinton. He moved to the Aberdeen area in August of 1977 where he attended Aberdeen schools.
In 1992 he met and married his wife Barbara “Barb” Wilson. James served in the United States Army from 1982 until his retirement on Sept. 10, 2007, with the rank of SPC. He served in Iraq, and Kuwait from Nov. 2003 to Feb. 2005 as part of “Operation Iraqi Freedom.” During his service, James earned many medals and commendations, he earned the: Army Commendation Medal four times, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal recipient two times, recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/m Device, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Expert Marksmen Award.
James then worked in the logging industry as a truck driver before retiring for medical reasons in February of 2015. In 2016 he was the Vice-President of the Aberdeen Eagles. James enjoyed spending time with family and friends. taking photos, he was a gun enthusiast, enjoyed NASCAR races, street of out laws, fishing, traveling, poker, helping others and making people laugh. He loved all types of music.
James is survived by his wife of 32 years Barbara L. Clinton; sons, Kristopher J. Pentz of Central Park, Washington and Jerrod T. Clinton of Hoquiam, Washington; daughter McKayla E.D. Smith of South Bend, Washington; brothers, Tim Clinton and David Clinton both of Aberdeen, Washington, Pete Clinton of Lacey, Washington, and Marty Clinton of Idaho; sisters, Cynthia Clinton of Westport, Washington, Debbie Martin of Idaho, Kathleen Keiffer Clinton of Montana, and Penny Rathbone of Arkansas; grandchildren, Collin Clinton-Smith and Rhylie Clinton Smith both of Oregon, Kiele Clinton Thomas of South Bend, Washington, and Kaden and Karter Pentz, both of Central Park; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Geraldine Clinton and brother, Patrick Clinton.
A memorial service will be held at the Hoquiam VFW on April 5 at 2 p.m. with Rhys Davis officiating.
