James Michael Allen passed away May 12, 2021, age 72, in Portland, Oregon having suffered major cardiac issues this past week.
Born in 1948 to Lucille Davis Allen and Floyd Charles Allen in Casper, Wyoming, he joined an older brother, Bill. As a child, the family lived in Wyoming, Alaska and Washington.
After serving the Navy in Vietnam, he made his living as a pipefitter and teaching apprenticeship classes, working mostly out of the Bellingham and Burlington locals. He built a home and raised his family in Sedro Woolley. His children and grandchildren truly were the delight of his life; time spent with them was so precious to him.
In 2003, he reacquainted with a friend from his teens; they fell in love, married and retired to live along the Wynoochee River where he enjoyed fishing, golfing and all the wonderful people he met on the river and on golf courses — he talked with them all.
He will be remembered for being a great dad and husband, for Nerf football games played with his kids in the living room while watching Seahawk games, for his barbecuing skills, how he puttered and did all his own maintenance around the place, how he economized and kept the old mower together, working with duck tape and a prayer.
He loved life, and we loved life with him in it.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Gladys Lucille (Lucy) Allen; his children: Derek M. Allen, his wife Jodie, and their children: Travis, Brandon, Larissa, and Jacob; Danielle N. Allen and her daughter, Kristin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucille and Floyd and brother, Bill.
