Janet Louise Young of Hoquiam, passed away July 15, 2024. Janet was born to Valley and Vera Madison on Nov. 27, 1946, in Aberdeen, Washington. Janet married Ray Young March 14, 1986. Janet worked for Grays Harbor Paper Company for several years as a quality control inspector.

She had 2 children from a previous marriage, Christine Keller and Darrin Grube, 2 step-children, Donald Young and Diana Young, one granddaughter, Stephanie Parker, a great-granddaughter, London Diana Cisternos, and 2 great-grandsons, Kayson Barr Balestra and Keaton Parker. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Darrin; stepdaughter Diana; great-grandson, Jace Barr-Balestra; stepson Donald, and most recently, her husband Ray who passed away on the same day, one year ago. She also was preceded in death by her brothers, Leroy Madison, Duane Madison and her sisters Faye Madison, Karen Church, Dorothy Ward and Myrna Cherry.

Janet is survived by her daughter, Christine (Roger) Keller of Aberdeen; granddaughter, Stephanie (Jake) Parker of Toutle; brothers Bruce Madison of Aberdeen; sister, Wanda Madison Fosdick Lyles, of Wapato; and her great-grandchildren, London, Kayson and Keaton, along with numerous nieces and nephews along with her beloved cat, Misty.

Janet had a numerous amount of interests and hobbies over the years including crafts, photography, and drawing. She entered several items throughout the years at the county fair. She also enjoyed feeding wild birds, and her beautiful potted flower garden. In her younger years she loved decorating her house for the seasons, she also enjoyed blackberry picking. Janet was well known for helping other people, friends and family in need. She loved little children, she enjoyed talking, teaching and playing with them. Janet also enjoyed being the “auctioneer” at family reunions in previous years.

Janet enjoyed camping with Ray at the family homestead, cooking and canning together, attending car shows, car races and long drives in Ray’s convertible. In their younger years they enjoyed going out dancing and hiking. They also took many road trips together.

Janet was well known in the family as being the “family historian.” She knew everything there was to know, and she really enjoyed that.

Most recently, Janet really enjoyed thrifting and watching craft shows, she was very creative and many times said she could have been an inventor!

Janet was known for saying what she thought! In her own words “I liked giving out advice, wanted or not!”

Viewing will be at Coleman Mortuary, 422 5th Street, Hoquiam on Thursday and Friday morning and there will be a graveside service at Sunset Memorial Park which is located at 801 Sunset Drive in Hoquiam park at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 26th with a potluck reception to follow at the Aberdeen Rotary Log Pavilion.
