Jeanne Ann was born, the first of seven children, to Robert and Julia Hartsock March 20, 1937, in Indianapolis, Ind. During the war the family moved to nearby Noblesville where Jeanne attended school.

She met Lester Cox in 1952 and they were married the 12th of October. School ended abruptly for Jeanne as children soon arrived. Anita, Marcia, Donald and Robert were born before the Cox’s moved to Washington in 1962. Eventually settling in Brady, Lester worked for Buford Goeres and Weyerhaeuser.

Jeanne gave birth to Carol and Kathy to complete the family. She was a devoted mother, in this she did not waver.

She liked housekeeping – all of it. Along with the domestic chores she sewed, baked, gardened and crocheted and was active in the Olympic View Grange. Bowling, pinochle and riding their Goldwing were important social events that she and Lester enjoyed together. Family vacations were usually camping or road trips including several visits to family in Indiana.

In 1975 the home address changed again with a move to Hunter’s Prairie into an ongoing remodel. The many years of child raising continued and were perhaps her finest.

In the late 80’s a few major changes occurred: she began to work outside the home; the nest, after so many years of parenting, was empty; her marriage ended. The next several years were difficult, the trademark bright smile and loud laugh not so common… until they returned. Along the way she worked for Weyerhaeuser, Ostrom’s, Schwan’s, JC Penny’s, Beehive Restaurant and did in-home care.

In 2004 she openly confessed Jesus as her Savior, was baptized and lived the rest of her days with the sure hope of Heaven. Her last years were greatly limited by the effects of emphysema. She took up QVC shopping and colored pencil work while remaining faithful to honor others with a tremendous output of greeting cards sent far and wide. She continued to prize her children and grandchildren having a strong desire for each.

Her last months were happily lived in community at Olympia Manor where she received good care and made many friends. Assured Hospice assisted in her final days.

On Sept. 27, 2016 she left us, her body died and her faith became sight. Absent from the body, present with the Lord.

Jeanne is survived by her children, Anita Kennedy (Gary Holdsworth) Sacramento, Calif.; Marcia Oberg (John) Roanoke, Va.; Donald Cox (Ingrid) Rochester, Wash.; Robert Cox (Carol) Elma, Wash.; Carol Kennedy (Kory) Olympia, Wash.; Kathy Brown (Jerry) Olympia, Wash.; siblings, John Hartsock (Eunice) Claremore, Okla.; Mary Dash (Bobby) Noblesville, Ind.; Judy Wills Noblesville, Ind.; Susan Ekert (Stan) Ankeny, Iowa; Linda White Indianapolis, Ind.

Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren number 34.

Her parents and youngest brother, Robert Hartsock, preceded her in death.

A memorial service and luncheon will be held Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 600 West Main, Elma.
