Joann Stover

Joann Stover was born in Des Moines Iowa in 1931.

Joann Stover was born in Des Moines Iowa in 1931. When she was very young, she moved to Centerville, Kansas where she lived until she was a teenager. Her family moved to Seattle, Washington when she was in high school where they lived for just a year before finally moving to Hoquiam, Washington where she spent the rest of her life.

She graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1949 and went to work at the Hoquiam Veneer Plant where she met her husband, Charles. They were soon married and began their life together on the East Hoquiam Road where they built their own home and had four children.

Joann later started working at the Hoquiam City Clerk’s office where she rose to the level of Finance Director. In addition to working for the city, she also volunteered with the Rotary Club of Hoquiam, on the Hoquiam Civil Service Board and the 7th Street Kids.

After retiring she started traveling around the country with her husband and spending time with her five grandchildren. She was also a member of the Presbyterian Church choir where she spent many happy years singing with her friends and family. In her later years, she was diagnosed with dementia and began finding daily life difficult. She may have lost her memories, but never lost her sense of humor and her wonderful laugh and joyful smile.

Joann is survived by her husband Charles, her three children: Vickie Crick of Chehalis, Washington; Larry Stover of Hoquiam, Washington and Mark Stover (Michelle) of Evergreen, Colorado; and her siblings Shirley Knox, Richard Brown and Robert Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer Brown and Ella Brown as well as her daughter Lori Jo Stover.
