John Robert Hirschbeck Jr., 76, a longtime real estate broker and resident of Grays Harbor, died at Providence St. Peter Hospital, Olympia, Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2018. He was born in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Feb. 27, 1942, the son of John Robert Sr. and Josephine (Young) Hirschbeck. The family came to Aberdeen with John at an early age and he graduated from Weatherwax High School, Aberdeen, in 1960.
After high school he entered the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves and had worked at Reiner’s Sporting Goods in Aberdeen. Later he would work as a salesman for a wholesale sporting goods company in California. He also worked for Montgomery Ward in Idaho. John found interest in Boise, Idaho as a realtor, which would be his life’s work.
John returned to the Harbor as an agent for Valentine Realty before he established Hirschbeck Realty in Montesano. He closed the company in 1988 and became an agent for Caldwell-Banker Realty in Aberdeen. He moved to Olympia and went to work for Van Dorm Realty until he retired in 2015.
He had married Linda Haek, later divorcing in 1999. He then married Teresita “Terry” Galvez in Olympia on Feb. 17, 2015.
John was a member of the Aberdeen Eagles, the Montesano Moose and a charter member of the Ocean Shores Elks Lodge. He enjoyed communicating via the computer, watching westerns and going to the casino.
Besides his wife, Terry, of the home in Tumwater, John is survived by a daughter; Vicki Hirschbeck, Montesano; two sisters: Barbara (Earl) Hughes, Olympia and Joy Jean (Bruce) Hughes, Montesano; and also three grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two nieces and two nephews.
A private family gathering will be held at niche-side in Fern Hill Cemetery, Aberdeen.
