Johnny B. Shay, age 65, a resident of Hoquiam, died on Sept. 4, 2024 peacefully at his residence.
John was born on March 13, 1959, in Aberdeen to Harry Shay and Margaret Shay. He was the youngest of a large family (Carol, Tom, Gloria, Connie and Ron). He was raised in Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1977.
John and Cherie Shay (Boileau) were married on Aug. 7, 1981. They had lived in Aberdeen and Hoquiam. He was an avid hunter and fisherman his whole life.
In addition to his wife, Cherie, he is survived by a son Bradley John Shay (granddaughter Paisley Jo Shay) and daughter, Ashley Mae Courts (husband Brian Courts), grandson Brantley Corbin Courts, granddaughter Henley Lou Courts and another granddaughter on the way, all of Elma.
He worked at Weyerhaeuser for 29 years until they closed down. He then worked for Aberdeen School District until he retired in 2021.
A celebration of life is being planned, location and date to follow.
