Karl R. Rainey of Hoquiam, Wash. died on Aug. 17, 2017, at the age of 72. Karl was born in Auburn, Wash. on Jan. 9, 1945, to Roscoe Rainey and Ellen (Manike) Rainey. They lived in Nagrom for awhile and then moved to Lester, Wash. Karl worked in the woods as a tramp logger for many years working all over. Karl and his family moved to the Harbor where he logged in the late 70s where he ran shovel and loaded logs for Mayer Brothers, Spradlin, Rayionier, and other companies. Then he started working for IUOE Local 302 in the 90s. He helped build the new Queets Bridge among other things. He retired in 1999. He was an 18 year survivor of lung cancer, and was very proud of that.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Patricia Rainey at the family home; two sons: Roscoe and his wife Jarna, Shannon and his wife Alyssa of Hoquiam and granddaughters Addison, McKenna and Piper. He is also survived by his daughter Karla and grandchildren Kendra, Devon, Faith, and Jeremiah. His sister Ellen (DeeDee) Allen and her daughter MaryJo. He is also survived by many other relatives to numerous to name, plus many friends who helped out when Karl passed. Thank you to all of them.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2, at 2488 East Hoquiam Rd., Hoquiam.
