Karl Thomas Elledge, 74 years of age and a longtime Hoquiam, Wash., resident, died on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Wash. He was born on Aug. 21, 1942, in Longview, Wash., to Bluford and Ida May (Longoria) Elledge.
He attended schools in Everett, Tacoma and then Aberdeen, where he graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1960. Growing up he enjoyed working with wood and following his graduation he worked for Ginny Sims in Ocean Shores.
On April 27, 1963, he was married to Arlien C. Caballero in Hoquiam and they made Hoquiam their home. He worked for Grays Harbor Paper of 47 years.
The couple had traveled to Texas, California, Missouri, Arkansas and Montana.
Karl enjoyed gardening, woodworking, watching the Seahawks, Mariners, Gonzaga, following the kids and grandkids in their activities, old cars and the football games on Fridays at the Olympic Stadium. He fondly remembered the births of his kids and grandkids.
He will be remembered for his smile, storytelling and his sense of humor.
Karl is survived by his wife, Arlien Elledge of the Hoquiam family home; his sons, Thomas Elledge (Nikki), Kenneth Elledge and Todd Dean all of Hoquiam; his daughter, Karla Elledge Sturm (Rich) of Hoquiam; his sister, Wilma Daniels of Vancouver, Wash.; his brother, Todd Dean of Hoquiam; ten grandchildren, Ryan Sturm, Kayla (Kevin) Sturm, Randy (Sonya) Sturm, Rees Sturm, Billy Clark, Bryan Clark, Alex Elledge, Thomas Elledge, Tabathia Elledge and Sarah Elledge; four great-grandchildren, Payton, Liliana, Kasen and Brooklynn; his special nephews, Donald Beatty and Steven Beatty and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bluford Elledge Sr. and Ida May Elledge; a brother, Bluford “Gene” Elledge Jr.; his sisters, Virginia Becker, Marilyn Beatty and Barbara Crosby and a special niece, Margaret Delbrouck.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at the Coleman Mortuary Chapel in Hoquiam with Rev Sean Hollen officiating. Concluding service and interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park in Hoquiam. There will be a potluck gathering for family and friends at 12:30 p.m. following the services.
