Larry W. Patton passed away Sept. 5, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born to Lawrence and Julia (Mackey) Patton at Hoquiam General Hospital. When Larry was 8 months old they moved to Oyehut, Wash. The family then moved to Aberdeen where he attended Washington Grade School. His family then moved to Elma, Wash. where he graduated from Elma High School. After graduating in 1957, he went to Grays Harbor College for one year. He then enlisted into the United States Navy, serving in Japan and Korea and was honorably discharged in 1962. He then returned to Elma where he worked at Simpson Plywood in McCleary.
In 1964 he married Eva Wells and they had three children, Russell Patton (Diane) of Oregon, Kenneth Patton (Carol) of Tumwater, and Janet Patton Lam (Curt) of Lacey. Larry and Eva later divorced.
Larry met his soulmate, Verna Rae Byrns, and they were married in 1972. Larry and Verna Rae have a son, Robert Patton and Larry has three step-children, Glenda Byrns Robinson (Robby) of Elma, Billie Byrns Castleberry of Elma, and LLoyd Byrns (Connie) of Winnemucca, Nev.
In 1973 Larry was working for Safeway until he decided to sell the Satsop farm and buy a grocery store of his own in Oyehut, Wash. He moved his family back to the beach he loved so much. While Verna Rae worked at the store in Oyehut, Larry went to work for Coast Communications. He later went to work with his son, Robert, in the Cedar Salvage business. They were Larry and Bob’s Woods until 2003 when Larry retired.
Larry’s hobbies were hunting, fishing and gardening. His garden included flowers and vegetables in which he canned. He liked to can jams the most, to give to his children and grandchildren. He also had a real talent for woodworking.
He was proceeded in death by his father and mother and a grandson, Joshua Ensminger. He also has 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Larry was loved by all and will be missed by everyone he touched in his lifetime.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 8, 2016 at the Ocean Shores Lions Club, 832 Ocean Shores Blvd NW, Ocean Shores, WA 98569.
