Laurie Jane Kidd, age 66, a resident of Rochester, Washington, died on Monday, Feb. 18, 2019, at her home in Rochester. Laurie was born in Aberdeen on Nov. 19, 1952, to parents Royal D. and Laura G. (Matusevitz) Priebe. She attended Hoquiam schools until the eighth grade, then at North River High School, where she graduated in 1971.
She then attended beauty college in Olympia and operated a salon from her home in East Hoquiam for many years. She was also an accomplished artist and had an art supply store in Hoquiam during the 1980s. She and her husband Gary were later co-owners of a Papa Murphy’s franchise in Centralia from 1996 to 2001.
A highlight of her artistic career came with the acceptance of one of her ornaments by the Smithsonian Institute.
Laurie is remembered as a devout Christian and an excellent cook.
Surviving relatives include her husband Gary of the family home in Rochester; children, Sonney Handley of Aberdeen, Scotty Kidd of Mount Lake Terrace and Cherie Lovely of Talkeetna, Alaska; a twin sister, Linda Rose of Tokeland; sisters, Ronnie Sauer of Aberdeen, Lisa Bridges of Hoquiam and Judy Maruska of Hoquiam, seven grandchildren and many bonus children and grandchildren. Two brothers, Dan and Royal Priebe Jr. preceded her in death.
A celebration of life with Dan Gebhart officiating, will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2019, at the Hoquiam Elks Lodge.
Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
