On Monday, Dec. 21, 2020, Lewis Melvin Lord, loving husband, and father of two sons, died peacefully in his home in Ocean Shores, Washington, at the age of 91. He was born Jan. 31, 1929, in Conover, North Carolina, to Myrtle Estelle Hewitt Hunsucker and Raymond Hunsucker, the youngest of four sons. Lew graduated Glendale High in Glendale, California, in 1948 and attended Glendale College. He joined the Navy and was later drafted by the Army during the Korean Conflict.
In 1952, he married Betty Mae Flowers and they had two sons: David Carroll Lord and Paul Brent Lord. On Valentine’s Day in 1975, Lew married Helen Kimes Cranor.
He had careers as an architectural draftsman and as a preventative maintenance inspector at Sepulveda VA Hospital, retiring in 1991. After retiring, Lew and Helen moved to Ocean Shores. He enjoyed beachcombing, hiking and camping, whittling and woodcarving, pencil drawing, photography and crossword puzzles. He loved the United Methodist Church and all things chocolate!
Lew was preceded in death by his father Raymond Hunsucker; stepfather David Lord; his mother, Myrtle Estelle Hewitt Hunsucker Lord; and his brothers, Ray Miller Lord, Hewitt Franklin Lord and Paul Eugene Lord. Lew is survived by his wife, Helen; sons, David and Paul; daughter-in-law, Elena Parra Lord; and grandchildren William David Lord and Sarah Michelle Lord.
