Marian Anita Haskey, age 85, a longtime resident of the Wishkah Valley, died on April 4, 2018, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. Mrs. Haskey was born on Nov. 12, 1932, in Vancouver, B.C., to Carl R. and Edith S. (Hartull) Riska. At an early age, she moved with her family to Aberdeen. She graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1950 and then attended business college for a year.
Marian had worked for Sears and Western Steel.
On June 20, 1953, she and John George Haskey were married in Aberdeen. They moved to the Wishkah Valley in 1954 where they farmed and were caretakers for St. John’s Cemetery.
She was active in her children’s activities, taking part in school fund raisers and was a Campfire Girls leader for 5 years. Marian also enjoyed her trips to Reno. She had been a member of the Pioneer Club, The Wishkah Valley Commnity Club, the Red Hat Society and VFW Auxiliary in Aberdeen.
Surviving relatives include her son John C. Haskey of Hoquiam; two daughters, Anne (Haskey) Boling of Arlington and Susan (Haskey) Roberts of Hoquiam; four grandchildren, Casey Hogarty, J.J. Haskey, Brian Stamon and Kris Stamon; two great-grandsons; and four great-granddaughters. A grandson, Andy Holm died previously.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. this afternoon, April 28, 2018, at the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam. A private urn committal service will be at St. John’s Cemetery.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to a Relay for Life Team or PAWS.
