Born in Decorah, Iowa, to parents Clarence and Selma Ask, Marlin is survived by his longtime girlfriend, Lois Carroll of Central Park.

In high school, Marlin worked as an usher at a local Aberdeen theater. He next joined the armed forces to help support his family, serving in both the Army and Marine Corps.

Back on the harbor, Marlin joined the Hoquiam Fire Department, where he worked until retirement, but always stayed in contact with his current and past firefighter brothers.

Marlin was very active in the community, spending the majority of his time at Saron Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway, and the local food bank.

He would always lend a hand, be it with car repairs, working on houses, building add-ons to the church, or doing yard work.

Marlin could often be found clam-digging, oyster picking, racing crabs at the annual Westport Seafood Festival, and attending other local festivals.

Marlin is also survived by his daughters, Rebecca (Ask) Hanson and her husband, Steve, of Port Townsend, Julie Ask of Beaverton, Ore. and Stefanie Ask and her husband, Cassidy Patnoe of Whidbey Island., his sisters, Norma Finch of Hoquiam, Sharon Merta and her husband, Bud, of Gig Harbor and his brothers, Dervin Ask of Olympia and David Ask of Hoquiam. Other relatives included his grandchildren, Peta Crites-Ask, Josie Shea-Ask, Blakeley Gaudina, Kaitlyn Gaudina, Keith Ask and Dakota Ask; great-grandchildren, Carter Crites, Toren Crites and Logan Shea, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his son, Brian Ask, and his brothers, Kenneth Ask and Curtis Ask all of Hoquiam.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2017, at the Coleman Mortuary, 422 – 5th Street in Hoquiam.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 5, 2017, at the Saron Lutheran Church, at the corners of 8th and M Streets in Hoquiam with Pastor Michelle de Beauchamp officiating. Following the committal service at the Sunset Memorial Park there will be a gathering of family and friends back at the Saron Lutheran Church.
