Michael Patrick McMeekin, born March 17, 1951, in Centralia, Washington died Aug. 18, 2021, at the young age of 70 at his home on the West Satsop Road in Montesano.
Mike grew up in Oakville and Aberdeen.
In Oakville he experienced a simpler life and kept busy participating in sports and enjoying the outdoors. While attending Weatherwax High School in Aberdeen he played football and was co-captain of the undefeated Bobcats.
After high school, Mike joined the Marine Corps. As a reconnaissance scout in the First Marine Division he was presented the Bronze Star Medal for his admirable service in the Republic of Vietnam. Following Vietnam Mike began working in the woods where he was a timber faller for many years.
Mike had a multitude of interests including smelt dipping at Kalaloch, picking blackberries and chanterelle mushrooms. He loved hiking, working out, playing jokes on his friends, coaching, playing sports, talking on the phone, and tending his vegetable garden and dahlias. His favorite times included catching blueback and packing out bucks.
If he had any regrets, it was not spending enough time in Maui where he loved the beaches in Kihei and snorkeling in Makena.
Son of John McMeekin and Nadine Wick, Mike is survived by his wife Deborah (Wilson) McMeekin, brothers Jaymee McMeekin (Barb) and Randy Bachtell (Candi), sisters Kathy and Tara, children Angie and Jeff, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Friends and family are welcome to join in an outdoor memorial service at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29, at 1294 West Satsop Road in Montesano, Washington.
