Mike served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1961. While he was stationed in Fort Lewis, he met and married the love of his life, Opal Barton, on April 8, 1961. They shared 59 beautiful years together. The two moved to New York where he worked in construction for 13 years. They had three daughters: Dia, Desirae and Raina.
In September 1974, Mike and his family moved to Cosmopolis, Washington where he started work at the Weyerhaeuser Pulp Mill until retirement in 1998.

Mike was a volunteer Cosmopolis Firefighter for 25 years and volunteered for Aberdeen Little League. He also did the chains for AHS football games for several years. Mike made the best lasagna, played slow-pitch with co-workers from the mill, enjoyed going to the ballpark, but his biggest love was anything that involved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had a million stories to share and was their biggest fan. Mike was a man that always put family first. We were truly blessed to have him in our life. Thank you, We Love You Dad (Papa)
