Mildred “Millie” Lyda Weld passed away on June 17, 2023. Millie was born on July 25, 1945 in Omaha, Nebraska to Donald and Mildred Hugill. She was raised in Spokane, Washington and attended Holy Names High School class of 1963.
Millie married on Nov. 28 of 1975 to Doug Weld. She worked for Elma Elementary and Elma High School for 31 years before retiring in 2014. She was a member of multiple sports booster clubs, Elma/ McCleary Jaycee’s, and was a secretary for Little League baseball. Millie loved going to sporting events, especially Mariners baseball, Seattle Seahawks, and Washington Huskies, but most of all, watching her grandkids in their sports. She also enjoyed going to the casino, reading books, making raspberry jam, bowling, country music concerts, craft and bizarre shows, and her latte “no foam with whip.” Millie was even Citizen of the Year in Elma.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents Donald and Mildred Hugill; brother Robert Hugill; sister Roxanne Maltman; grandchild Chance Brogan; and great-grandchild Chayson. She is survived by her husband who resides at the family home, Doug Weld of Elma, Washington; son Michael Weld of Elma; daughters Sheila Curry of Tumwater, Washington, Cheri Landry of Elma, and Darlene Brogan of Lacey; brothers Gary Hugill of Tri-Cities, Washington and Donald Hugill of Wenatchee, Washington; sister Cindy Shelton of Elma; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held for Millie at 1 p.m. on July 29, 2023 at the Elma High School Gym. There will be a potluck to follow.
