Peter John Majar, Sr., age 91, passed away at his home in Aberdeen, Washington, on April 16, 2019.
Pete Sr. was born on July 29, 1927, in Aberdeen, Washington, to Jovo and Kate Basich Majar.
He graduated Weatherwax High (Aberdeen) in 1945 and after serving in the Army attended the University of Washington.
On March 10, 1956, Pete married Shirley Ann Stakkestad at Edison Lutheran Church. Together they had three children, Melissa Lamoreaux, Maria Majar and Peter Majar, Jr. Pete and Shirley Majar remained married until Shirley’s death on Sept. 18, 1998.
In June, 2000, Pete married his second wife, Mary Ann Majar, at Amazing Grace Lutheran Church and remained married until Pete’s passing.
Professionally, Pete leveraged an early accounting background and a keen strategic business sense to rise up to run Hoquiam Plywood as its Head General Manager, guiding the firm profitably through both robust and lean times in the forest product industry. He also proudly served as a board member of Timberland Savings Bank, serving as a board of director until his retirement at the age of 75.
Pete was deeply devoted to family and counted both his immediate family and extended brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws and their extended families as some of his best friends.
In addition to his focus on family and business, Pete loved his community service involvement with the Lions Club, Amazing Grace Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway and enjoyed a regular golf game through his first 90 years with plans to return to the course this summer! He spoke fondly of his deep friendships garnished through all the above organizations.
Pete is survived by his wife Mary Ann, his children Melissa Lamoreaux, Maria Majar and Peter Majar, Jr., his son-in-law Steve Lamoreaux, his daughter-in-law Laura Majar, his granddaughter Zoe Lamoreaux and numerous nieces and nephews, inclusive of his Goddaughter Jennifer Sutherland and Godson John Stakkestad.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 25, at 11 a.m. at Amazing Grace Lutheran Church with a celebratory luncheon following at the Amazing Grace Lutheran Church Parrish Hall. A graveside service will follow at Fern Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Pete, Sr.’s name to either Amazing Grace Lutheran Church or the Lions Club of Aberdeen.
