Phillip Dennis High II, known to his family as PD and co-workers as PH, of Ocean Shores, passed away on Jan. 14, 2020. Phil was born in Seattle, Washington, on March 31, 1966, and graduated from Juanita High School. He continued his education throughout his life earning an associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from Grays Harbor College, a bachelor’s in Criminal Justice from Washington State University, a master’s in Public Administration from Pennsylvania State University, and had nearly completed an additional master’s in Counseling Psychology from Bradley University, at the time of his passing.
On Aug. 1, 2006, Phil married Molly Cathcart. They had a special relationship bringing out the best in each other and filling in each other’s gaps. Their love was woven together with humor that was a special part of their bond. He took on the roll of a father with gusto to their son, Adrian.
Phil started his career in the United States Army with the 101st Airborne and ultimately finished his military career as a military police officer in the Idaho National Guard. Phil then joined the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office in Idaho. There he was hired as a dispatcher, then moved into the jail and finally went to patrol as a Blaine County sheriff’s deputy. After Phil moved to Grays Harbor, he spent a year as a correctional officer at Stafford Creek before joining the Ocean Shores Police Department. Three years later, Phil joined the Hoquiam Police Department as a patrol officer. He was employed there just short of 10 years at the time of his passing.
Phil is survived by his wife Molly; son Adrian; mother Elizabeth (Larry) High-Calkin; brother Vincent (Marsha) High; sister Eva (Josh) Schmidt; half-sister Coleen Fritz; step-brothers Richard and Paul Calkin; nieces Elise, Sophia and Sydney; nephews William and Dylan; brother-in-law Justin Cathcart; mother-in-law Gail Cathcart; and grandmother-in-law Evelyn Gilroy (Gigi).
Phil was preceded in death by his father Phillip Dennis High I; uncles David Russell and Jeffry High; grandparents Vincent High, Mary High, Lowell Russell and Eva Russell.
A memorial service with honors will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Ocean Shores Convention Center. Ironically, this date would have been his 10-year anniversary with the Hoquiam Police Department. Memorial information can be found on the Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen website.
