Randy was born in Aberdeen, Washington on July 25, 1950 to James and Patsy Sutherby.

Randy grew up in Camp Grisdale and Shaffer Brothers Logging Camp. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, which lasted into adulthood, and was known to be a bit mischievous as a youngster. He moved with his family to Brady, Washington and attended Brady School for 7th and 8th grade before attending Montesano High School and graduating in 1968.

He married Debbie Lake of Ketchikan, Alaska in September of 1971. They raised two children at their home in the Wynooche Valley in Montesano, Washington.

Younger Randy played drums in a band called The Poor Man’s Guardian. Later, along with members of his family, he enjoyed racing modified sprint cars, go-karts, as well as riding quads. He also enjoyed cooking, working in the garden, growing and canning his own vegetables, and keeping a small hive of honey bees.

He was a member of Local 302 and worked as a heavy equipment operator in the construction/logging industry. He worked on the Alaska Pipeline in the early ’80s. He eventually started his own company in 1993 called Wynooche Construction.

After retiring, Randy started making barbeque sauce; it quickly became popular, and he formed Wynooche Valley BBQ Sauces. The sauce was his passion. He thoroughly enjoyed talking with people while hosting tastings and promoting his sauce at various businesses around the area.
