Richard “Dick” George Fournier of Union, Washington passed away on April 5th, 2024 at the age of 82.
Dick was born on July 1, 1941 in Aberdeen, Washington to Paul Fournier and Florence Snow Fournier. He graduated from Montesano High School in 1959 and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Puget Sound in 1965 and a Master’s degree from the University of Washington in 1968. He married his wife Karen (Sather) Fournier on November 13, 1965 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tacoma.
Dick had a long career in education, serving as a faculty member at Newport High School in Bellevue from 1965-1970 and a teacher and coach of football, track, and wrestling at Montesano High School from 1970 to 1977. He then started Fournier Insurance in 1977, which is a thriving business today.
Dick lived a full life. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed duck hunting, fishing, clam digging, boating, and tending to his yard. He was a devoted fan of his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and would rarely miss a game. Dick was also a member of St. John Parish, Lion’s Club, the Montesano High School Hall of Fame Committee, and served as president of the Professional Insurance Agents Association. Dick and his wife Karen loved to travel and spent many years exploring the world, from Africa to Australia, China, and Bhutan. They also enjoyed the camaraderie of friends at their home on Hood Canal. But, in his heart the small town of Montesano was always his true home.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Florence Fournier; his son, Dirk Kermit Fournier; and his brother, Paul Cyrus Fournier. He is survived by his wife Karen; his son Ryan Paul Fournier of Gig Harbor; his daughter Kendra Elizabeth Fournier of Bainbridge Island; and eight beloved grandchildren.
