After graduating from Montesano High School, Richard went to work for the city of Seattle engineering department. After seven years with the city of Seattle he returned to the Harbor and began his career at the Hoquiam Police Department. He served as a police officer for 20 years during which time he gained a reputation as a levelheaded leader, a skilled investigatorand a compassionate advocate for victims.

Rich, above all, was a family man who was a strong patriarch of our family. Esther, his wife of 33 years, was his best friend and the love of his life. His children and grandchildren were the pillar of his happiness.

Rich collected WWII memorabilia, enjoyed traveling with his wife and watching his grandkids sports and activities.

Rich is survived by his wife Esther, son Steven, daughter Susan, stepdaughter Dina; grandchildren: Colton, Carley, Gabriella and Gage; sister Sharon (Dave) Gerard; aunt Alva Benson; first wife Frannie, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins that were very special to him. Preceding him are his parents and beloved brother Ken.

Rich was a strong, proud and good man. He will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, please shake a veteran’s hand and thank them for their service.
