Richard (Rick) Wayne Sholes of Montesano, died on June 1, 2022, in Utah. He was 61 years old.
Rick was born in Aberdeen, Washington on May 11, 1961, to Frank and Ruth Sholes. He was raised in North River and attended school in Aberdeen, graduating in 1979.
After high school his dad, Frank, gave him his first pair of work boots and thought he might like to try working out in the woods and that is what he has done since. Rick cut timber for many different logging companies throughout the years and partnered with Tracy Lutton for a while, but eventually ran his own business, Sawtooth Logging. Over the last few years he had been working fighting wildfires and clearing timber for gas and electrical lines out of state.
If you knew Rick, you probably at some point experienced his sense of humor. He was always up for telling a good story, a dirty joke or pulling a prank on you. You also knew that he loved his unibrow and showing you his gold tooth. He also had a big heart and would help anyone in need. He loved to tease the kids, have campouts in the backyard and play in the swimming pool. Also, he enjoyed making walking canes for others, taking pictures of flowers, waterfalls, and collecting unusual rocks wherever he went. Rick is survived by his longtime domestic partner, Debbie, at their family home; children Tyler (Tiffany) Sholes, Bridgit (Allen) LeVie, Douglas (Yuni) Murphy, Aarin Murphy, Carina Murphy, Elissa (Jonathan) Church, Elliot (Paige) Mendenhall. Grandchildren: Sabi, Elizabeth, Kiegan, Coen, Ember, Kasen, Everley, Liam, Aubrey, Autumn, Kyland, Isabella, Baylor, Tameron, Raelynn, Blaine, and Remlee. Mom, Diane, sisters: Valerie, Cindy, Wendy, Lisa, Paula, and brother Steve, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his dad, Frank, mom, Ruth, and oldest son, Erik. A memorial is planned for Saturday, July 16, 2022, at the Brady Grange, from 1-4 p.m. Be prepared to share your funny stories and enjoy a potluck lunch with Rick’s family and friends.
