Richard Von Tippet Sr., 89, a former resident of Aberdeen, died, Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, at an assisted living home in Centralia, Wash.

Richard Von Tippet Sr., 89, a former resident of Aberdeen, died, Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, at an assisted living home in Centralia, Wash.

Richard was born on Feb. 27, 1927, in Berkley, Mich., to Paul E. and Susie Mae (Radcliff) Tippet. They moved to Elkhart, Ind., where he grew up. He joined the Navy in 1945 and Honorably Discharged in June 1946 after serving on the USS Braxton in the Pacific Theater.

He moved to Sedro Woolley, Wash., in 1949, where he met and married Adonna Moody in 1951. The couple moved to Aberdeen in 1956. He moved to Chehalis, Wash., in 2001 to be near a daughter.

Richard worked as a machinist at Lambs Grays Harbor for 40 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Aberdeen, a scout master of Troup 9 for 10 years, and was a lifetime member of the VFW, serving as post commander of Post 224.

Richard is survived by two daughters, Dennina (Mike) Keen of Chehalis, Wash. and Diana (Mike) McGregor of Ocean Shores, Wash.; a son Robert A. (Susan) Tippet of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, William (Hilda) Tippet of California; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by a son Richard V. Tippet Jr., a daughter, Kathy Tippet, three brothers: Paul, Donald and Harold and two sisters: Nancy Shimp and Margaret Layng.

There will be a private inurnment service at Fern Hill Cemetery at a later date.
