Robert (Bob) Gene Shanks, 94, passed away on March 31, 2021, at Tacoma General Hospital.
Bob was born Feb. 17, 1927, in Fargo, North Dakota. He served in the Navy during World War II. After the Navy, he attended North Dakota State University and graduated with an engineering degree. He married Donna Evanson also of Fargo in June 1949. After college, Bob was hired by the Boeing Company in Seattle and he and Donna moved to Renton, Washington.
Bob worked at Boeing for 38 years until he retired in 1987 as senior manager in the Customer Engineering Division. Bob and Donna moved to Grapeview, Washington, where they had built their retirement home and spent many wonderful years until Donna died in 2001. Bob continued living at Grapeview until a recent move to assisted living in Hoquiam.
Bob was an avid duck hunter and enjoyed hunting with his son for over 50 years. He was a former member of the Laidlaw Duck Club in Westport, Washington.
Bob was generous and loving to his family and loyal to his friends. Bob was a great supporter of community projects. He was instrumental in the building of the Lakeridge Swim Club in Seattle and worked on construction projects and levy campaigns at the Grapeview Fire Department.
Bob is survived by his son, Richard D. Shanks, wife, Anna and grandson, Daniel. He also is survived by his daughter, Veda C. Frederick, husband, Doug and grandson, Wesley Frederick, granddaughter, Melissa Frederick, her husband Paul Perry and great-grandson, Evan Perry. He also leaves behind his loving dog and faithful companion, Boof.
