Robert Darrell Hay, a beloved native of Hoquiam, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024, at the age of 87, at the Alpine Way Retirement Community in Shelton.

Robert Darrell Hay, a beloved native of Hoquiam, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024, at the age of 87, at the Alpine Way Retirement Community in Shelton.

Born on July 14, 1937, to Andrew and Elizabeth (Betty) Hay, Robert graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1956. He furthered his education at Washington State University and Grays Harbor College. Robert married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Cooper, followed by Sharon Smith and in 2016, he married Dorothy Bunnell, who survives him in Bremerton.

Robert’s early career was rooted in the family dairy business in Hoquiam until its sale in 1969. He then spent several years with Sunkist Corporation before re-establishing a dairy distribution business in Aberdeen, which he successfully operated until 1997.

A dedicated member of the community, Robert was involved in several fraternal organizations, including the Elks and Eagles. He also served on the board of Paradise Services Associates for many years. Robert cherished time with family and friends and was a generous supporter of numerous charitable causes.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his sons, Robert Jr. and Thad, along with their wives; four granddaughters; a great-granddaughter; step-daughter; and many nephews and nieces.
