Rodney C. Miller, 90, of Amanda Park, passed away on March 1, 2025, at Green Lake Senior Living in Ocean Shores. He was born on April 27, 1934, in the family home in Dodge Center, Minnesota, to Dewey and Effie (Trapp) Miller. Rodney’s early childhood was spent in Dodge Center, and later, the family moved to Bemidji, Minnesota, where he graduated from Bemidji High School in 1952.

In 1955, Rodney married Helen Heggie, and together they started a family. After a brief time in Anchorage, Alaska, where their first son, Jerry Allen, was born, they settled in Becida, Minnesota. There, their family grew with the births of Jeffery Lynn, Diane Elizabeth, and Jon Jay.

In 1963, Rodney joined his brother-in-law Lynn Heggie on a trip to Hoquiam, Washington. Instead of returning to Minnesota, Rodney called Helen to pack up and relocate with their children. They later divorced.

In 1978, Rodney married Phyllis Marston, and they made their home in Amanda Park, where they raised Phyllis’s two children, Carmen and Randy Riddell.

Rodney was a hardworking man, known for his tireless work ethic. After high school, he worked long hours on a dairy farm in Arizona’s heat. He then moved to Alaska, where he worked in logging and road building before purchasing a farm in Becida, Minnesota. In addition to farming, Rodney worked in logging, and road construction, partnering with his brother-in-law and neighbor, Jerry Vojak.

Upon relocating to Hoquiam, Rodney joined Wayne and Emery Rognlin, first as a plumber and later as an estimator in the office, where he worked for 37 years until his retirement in 2000. Rodney was highly valued and respected in his field for his dedication and skill.

In his free time, Rodney could be found on his tractor, gardening, cutting firewood, or maintaining his property. He enjoyed hunting and fishing trips to Canada and Alaska, as well as drifting local rivers with his son, Jeff. He cherished the quiet moments spent by the fire with his dogs, listening to polka and country music.

Rodney is survived by his wife of 46 years, Phyllis Miller; daughter, Diane (Mark) Hedges; sons, Jeff Miller and Jon Jay (Rachael) Miller; stepdaughter, Carmen Maestas; stepson, Randy (Peaches) Riddell; daughter-in-law, Janis (Jerry) Miller; and sister, Delilah Brown. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Sarah and Anna (daughters of Jerry and Janis), Sativa and Madison (daughters of Diane), Skyler (son of Jon and Rachael), and Ashley and Rick (children of Carmen). He leaves behind four great-grandchildren: Nevaeh and Riot (children of Ashley), and Levin and Benjamin (children of Anna).

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Effie Miller; sister, Lorraine Vojak; brothers, Warren, Ronald, Willard, and Earl Miller; son, Jerry Allen Miller; and former wife, Helen Miller.

Rodney is also survived by many special friends and coworkers, including Wayne and Randy Rognlin, Walt Brown, Brian Thompson, Jim Gravatt, Roz Kitchner, and Don Morrison.

Though Rodney may no longer be with us, he will be remembered as a man who lived life on his own terms — tough, honest, and always doing things his way. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A celebration of life will be held at the 40 & 8 Club, 2313 Simpson Ave., Aberdeen, on his birthday, April 27, at 12 p.m.
