Ronald “Ron” G. Chadwick, 73, an Ocean Shores resident, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024, due to cardiac failure at the scene of an auto accident. EMTs were unable to revive him while transporting to Harbor Regional Health in Aberdeen, Washington. Ron was recovering from heart surgery at Providence Mother Joseph Care Home in Olympia, Washington. He had just returned home the day before the accident.
Ron was born on June 4, 1951, in Camarillo, California to Kenneth and Bretta (Norris) Chadwick. They moved to Kennewick, Washington when he was young. He graduated from Kennewick High School in 1969. He then attended Columbia Basin College and transferred to Washington State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities. Ron also attended Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon.
In 1973 he married Karen Sue Geddes, and they moved to Vancouver, Washington. They would have 3 children. They divorced in 1979.
He moved to Portland, Oregon where he met the love of his life. On Feb. 14, 1985, Ron married Mary M. Scott McClung in Newberg, Oregon. Ron and his wife moved to Hillsboro, Oregon where he went to work for Credence Systems in 1993 as an Electronics Technician building until 2001.
Ron went to work at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon as a Transportation Specialist/Center Assistant for the Head Start Program. He loved serving the local families and their children. He retired on July 1, 2018, and they moved to Ocean Shores, Washington where Mary continues to live. Mary plans to relocate closer to her children.
He enjoyed his Golden Retrievers more than anything and was an avid reader. He was an integral partner with his wife in their Golden Retriever business, Sundancin’ Goldens. Ron valued his faith immensely. He became a Christian in 1969 and was involved with Campus Crusade for Christ at Washington State University. His relationship with God was the most important aspect of his life, and he wanted nothing more than to know God in a deep and evolving relationship.
Ron is survived by his wife Mary Margaret Chadwick of Ocean Shores, Washington; a son, David Daniel (Amy) Chadwick of Carrollton, Texas; two daughters: Angela Ann (Ryan) Williams of Vancouver, Washington and Christina Marie (Jeff) Gallacher of Redmond, Oregon; stepson, Jason (Kimberly) McClung of Wilsonville, Oregon; stepdaughter, Jennifer Anna (Jay) DeMent of Gresham, Oregon; brother Gary Dean Chadwick; two nephews; and 10 grandchildren.
There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 2:30 p.m. at Faith Community Church in Ocean Shores, Washington.
