Roy Rohr, age 62, passed away suddenly on Nov. 9, 2018, due to a heart attack while working in Forks, Wash., for Kenny Rohr Logging Company.
Roy Bill Rohr was born to Billy Lee and Dorothea Louise (Hathaway) Rohr on April 19, 1956, in Raymond, Wash. Named after his father, he would be the first of three sons born to this union. It is difficult to tell Roy’s story without telling of his parents. His mother, a twin to Dorothy and his father, a brother to Richard, were both married in a double ceremony. Each of the couples had three children forming the “6-pack” in these two families of double cousins. As children, they grew up together, as close as siblings could be.
Roy spent most of his childhood in east Raymond, was a graduate of Valley High School having played football throughout his high school years. He was also a graduate of Grays Harbor College with a degree in Energy Technology. During his life, he worked for Willapa Logging, Northwest Log Marketing and other logging companies in the Pacific Northwest with the last few years working closely with his brother at Kenny Rohr Logging Company.
Roy served in the U.S. Navy during the first Gulf War both in Guam and aboard the USS Ingram where he served as a Machinery repairman, having received an honorable discharge after 10 years. He received a Navy Commendation Medal in September of 1995 for courageous and meritorious service and a special commendation for custom making a gear for a Russian ship.
Roy has a great love for his family. He suffered greatly when his father passed away suddenly from a heart attack in 1991 and his mother in 2007 from Alzheimer’s disease.
Roy is survived by his sons Matthew (Jenny) Rohr and sons of Oregon, Scott Rohr of Tacoma, Frances Rohr of Olympia, brothers Kenny (Kathy) Rohr of Montesano, Jeff (Connie) Rohr of South Bend, Daniel Rohr of south east Alaska, Mrs. Anna Shupp of Lewis County, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins.
Services will be Friday, Nov. 16, 2018, at 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Raymond, Wash. Interment will be at Fern Hill Cemetery in Menlo, near his parents.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to Roy’s family in care of Harrison Family Mortuary, 311 West Market Street, Aberdeen, WA 98520. Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen is honored to assist the family.
