Ruth Marguerite Smith died of complications from Pneumonia on April 18, 2017, just 11 days before her 95th birthday.

Ruth Marguerite Smith died of complications from pneumonia on April 18, 2017, just 11 days before her 95th birthday. Born on April 29, 1922, in a two-room log cabin at Boyle, Alberta, 80 miles north of Edmonton, the daughter of Aloney and Jetsome (Hilliard) McFarlane.

She came to the Harbor with her adoptive parents, Burton and Agnes Crick, when she was 14 to live with her uncle and aunt, Ervin and Mildred Crick. She had is several homes between Canada and Washington. After serving as a nanny for a Jewish family in Aberdeen, she graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1940.

She married Warner Martin Smith and had four children, Marty Smith of Sammamish, Wash., Cathy Stricker of Battleground, Wash., Roger Smith of Westport and Jetta Smith, living in the old family home in Hoquiam. Besides her four children, she is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at Saron Lutheran Church in Hoquiam. Please join with her family in honoring her life.
