Sarah Diana Caroline (Wright) Hope

Sarah Diana was born on June 27, 1940 in Toronto Canada.

Sarah Diana was born on June 27, 1940 in Toronto Canada.

She died April 5, 2025, at her son’s home in Puyallup, Washington. Growing up in Canada she lived in four different provinces, Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

In high school she was voted Miss Central in her Senior year. Her favorite story was to tell about being crowned Miss Moose Jaw in a 1958 pageant. With Redi-Mix Concrete as her sponsor, she was dubbed “Miss Cement Bag” which gave everyone a chuckle. The contest was sponsored by the local Rotary club to raise funds for the building of a new Civic Center.

She was a graduate in Music Education from the University of Toronto and married F/O Fred Hope of the RCAF in 1961. They lived on bases in Europe and Manitoba before immigrating to the United States in 1966.

They settled in Puyallup for 28 years where they raised their three sons and were members of Christ Episcopal Church. In 1994, they moved to Ocean Shores where she set up her “memory house” for summer camp and holiday family gatherings for her eight grandchildren. In the winters, Sarah and Fred would travel south to find the ski slopes in Utah and Idaho and then north to the British Columbia areas.

They enjoyed traveling the world including an extended time in Hong Kong during Fred’s career as a pilot with United Air Lines. After nine years of living with a green card, the family became naturalized American citizens on June 27 (her birthday) 1975. This enabled her to study for state certification at Pacific Lutheran University, Sarah taught in the Bethel School District at Elk Plain and Graham Elementary schools. She was a private piano instructor in both Puyallup and Ocean Shores.

SDC, (which became her signature code) is survived by son, John (Susan) grandchildren Connor and Jessica; son, Neil (Lisa) and their children Joanna and Jackson, son Brian (Tanya) and their four children, Alexis, Trace, Molly and Brooke.

She was an active supporter within the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Young Life and musical groups within her church and local ensembles.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Young Life or P.E.O. International.

A memorial service will be held at Faith Community Church in Ocean Shores at a date to be announced soon.
