Scott T Gordon Born May 23, 1965 in Elma, Washington to Russell Henry and Betty Rose (Helland) Gordon. Died July 8, 2023, in Racine, Wisconson on his way home from work. Scott married Grace Mainu on July 30, 2016, in Tomah, Wisconsin.
Scott attended Elma schools, graduating in 1983 and attended both Grays Harbor College in Aberdeen, Washington and Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington before starting out in his work life.
Scott had a passion for both competitive and spectator sports, excelling as an offensive lineman on two of Coach John Matau’s consecutive Elma football state playoff teams in the Fall of 1981 and 1982. He was also a third place state powerlifter. After high school he played city league basketball into his 30s. He continued to lift weights and go to the gym regularly throughout his life.
Scott was an ardent follower of all of Elma’s sports teams and even from Wisconsin, he called regularly to get the latest updates on the various teams. He also was a high volume fan of the Seahawks and Huskies.
In his early work career, Scott planted trees, delivered bread and bakery products to regional grocery stores and worked in the woods.
Scott spent several years in Alaska commercial fishing, logging and as a packer/assistant guide for a hunting outfitter before embarking on a long-haul trucking career that took him all over Western Washington, then from West Coast to East Coast and all parts in-between, including a stint driving water trucks in the oil-fracking fields of North Dakota before meeting Grace and committing to her in Wisconsin.
Scott never missed a chance to fish in Western Washington’s many gorgeous rivers and streams or hunt the mountains, forests and logged-off areas for trout, salmon or steelhead and deer, elk or bear. He shared his successes for many tasty meals with family and friends. Scott and the rest of the Gordon clan learned from Grandpa Rollin Gordon to appreciate what nature provides and to help be good stewards for our great natural wonders. Scott’s passion for hunting took him to Alaska, Idaho, Wyoming and Wisconsin, as well as all over Washington. Lots of great stories.
After Scott met and married Grace, he became an active Christian, becoming a regular church attendee with Grace. He credited Grace with helping him on that journey. He loved trying new foods, spending time with Grace and her family and cracking jokes with his new family members.
Scott is survived by his wife Grace at the family home in Tomah, brothers Gary (Candi) Gordon, Tim Gordon, both of Elma, Washington and Fred (Leslie) Gordon of Marysville, Washington; sisters Merry Ann Gordon and Melissa “Missy” Gordon, both of Tumwater, Washington; nieces Shannon (Wayne) Wallace of Olympia, Washington and Michelle (Tyler) Ingram of Arlington, Washington and nephews Timmy Gordon of Elma, Washington and Dustin Gordon of McCleary, Washington. Mainu and niece Angelina Mainu, all of Tomah, Wisconson; niece Angelina Mainu of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and niece Erica (Isaac) Press of Salt Lake City, Utah.
We also have a very large extended family with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends, whose collective continuous commitment to the value of strong family ties, has made Scott’s combined families journey through life an extreme blessing.
Scott was pre-deceased by his parents, Russell and Betty Gordon and brothers Hal Bruce Gordon in 2018 and Rex Arnold Gordon in 2020.
Scott was memorialized at Tomah Baptist Church and was interred at Oak Grove cemetery in Tomah, Wisconson on July 13, 2023.
