Terry Lee Yeager of Aberdeen/Central Park was born Nov. 24, 1951, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen, Washington and died Sept. 28, 2020, at Swedish Medical Center in Issaquah, Washington.
He was the son of William “Bill” and Nettie Lou Yeager of Hoquiam and has a sister, Linda (Harry) Gill of Hoquiam, Aunt Bertie McKown of Aberdeen and Aunt Betty Brenneman of Hoquiam, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews of Hoquiam and throughout the U.S.
Terry graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1971. He met his high school sweetheart in 1969 — Christine Moody from Aberdeen. They always had a rivalry going because Terry was a Hoquiam Grizzly and Chris was an Aberdeen Bobcat. Their private joke was Terry crossed the border of Myrtle Street to pick up a good Aberdeen woman. Chris said Terry will always be the love of her life.
Terry’s first jobs were hay baling and working at Ellison Pontiac in Aberdeen. Terry enlisted in the U.S. Navy right after he graduated in 1971. He married Christine Moody on March 11, 1972. They have been married 48 years. They were married for one week and then Terry did his tour of duty on the USS Ranger-CVA 61 to Vietnam for one year as an E4. Terry loved the U.S. Navy.
He returned to the Harbor and worked at Hoquiam Plywood from 1974 to 2020. Terry also owned Yeager Lawn Service.
Terry was a great son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. He has two children: Heather Yeager and son-in-law Patrick of Central Park; and son Casey Yeager and daughter-in-law Terah of Moxee, Washington. Terry now has seven grandchildren — Heather’s children: Brennen, Haylie, Emily Christine, Brayden and a brand-new baby grandson, Elijah, who was born a month early on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020, as well as Casey’s children; grandson Alex and granddaughter Ariah.
Terry was so proud of all his family of firefighters, paramedics and EMTs. Terry always said “Help others, love family and look up to God and America.”
Terry was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen.
Terry was an avid hunter/fisherman and enjoyed his hobbies with his grandparents, his father Bill, his son Casey, his brother-in-law Sam Moody and many friends, especially his best friend Ron Montoure.
He loved his trucks. He always looked forward to his memorable hunting trips with his son Casey. His last adventure was in 2018 when he took an Alaska cruise with his wife Chris and her 1968 AHS classmates. He always said he felt like a Bobcat with Chris and her class, even though he was a Hoquiam Grizzly.
His U.S. Navy Military Honors will be handled as soon as a date is available. Terry will have a private military/family graveside funeral due to the COVID-19 outbreak. He will be placed with his father William at Sunset Cemetery in Hoquiam.
Memorials can be sent to the Veteran Foundation, Grays Harbor Community Hospital and Swedish Medical Center in Issaquah. The Yeager family would like to thank everyone who has sent their condolences.
