Troy A. Ellis, 77, longtime Aberdeen resident, died at his home in Aberdeen on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018.

Troy was born on July 9, 1941, in Vancouver, Wash., to Ray and Marie (Nelson) Ellis. He grew up in Vancouver and moved to North River when his parents bought the Artic Tavern. He worked in the forest as a logger and later as a longshoreman until he was injured. He then opened Troy’s Automotive Machine in Hoquiam. Troy would later become a commercial fisherman, which was probably his favorite profession.

On Dec. 24, 1967, Troy married Marilyn M. McCready in Reno, Nev. After over 40 years of marriage, she passed away on Sept. 17, 2008.

Troy enjoyed restoring old cars, racing at Elma and building things. He could design and build car parts, commercial fishing reels, or any special doodad someone might need.

Troy often spoke of how lucky he was to have lived in the era he did. He was a good friend and a great person. He did not value material things and opened his door to those in need, often at his own peril. Although he was not religious, he lived a “Christian” way. He asked for forgiveness, he gave generously to others what he could, he was kind, and he had a heart for adventure. He was also stubborn, ornery, and had an inappropriate sense of humor. If you knew him, you were lucky. He is now surrounded by those he dearly loved and missed and will be greatly mourned by those who knew him.

Troy is survived his children: Sandra (Douglas) Larsen of Cosmopolis, Wash., Kimberly (Brad) Shaw of East Berlin, Pa. and Thomas (Natalie) Ellis of Shelton, Wash.; nine grandchildren: Zack, Kendra and Aaron Larsen, Connor, Logan and Erin Shaw, Fisher, Morgan and Felix Ellis. He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

A gathering of friends and family is being planned for Dec 1, at 1 p.m. at the Hoquiam VFW. Please come with stories to share and a covered dish if you would like.

Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen, Wash.
