Longtime Grayland resident Truman “Oly” Olson died Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, at age 86.
Born May 10, 1930, to Lawrence and Lillie Olson, Truman grew up in northern Minnesota. Joining the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, he settled in Washington after receiving treatment at Naval Hospital Bremerton. During the next 40 years, he worked as plumber and pipefitter on construction sites across western Washington and Oregon, including the planned nuclear power plant at Satsop. In the Grays Harbor area, he pointed with pride at the many buildings that he helped build or renovate.
Truman is survived by a son, John; three sisters: Linda (Roger) Rue, Joyce (Ron) Harnden, and LouAnn (Mike) Wiebusch; several nephews and nieces; and many neighbors and friends who remember him as devoted, kind, and helpful. Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Harris; a sister, Verna; and two wives, Pat and Juanita.
A memorial service in Grayland will be announced at a later date. Donations in Truman’s memory may be made to PAWS in Aberdeen.
