Valerie was born in California to Buck and June Noel, their third child of four, in 1956. She was an exceptional child who always worked hard both at home with the animals and chores, and at school, graduating a year early from high school.
She met Brian Busch shortly thereafter while working at her father’s repair shop. They married and relocated to his hometown of St. Louis, where they began their own family. They had three children and were very involved in their local community. The neighborhood, hospital and school all benefited immensely from her constant contributions.
In order to be closer to her other immediate family members in California, they relocated to Aberdeen, Washington in 1993. While in Aberdeen, Valerie spent her time working at both the regional and college libraries, as well as volunteering at the local animal shelter P.A.W.S. for over 20 years. For many, she became a community fixture who embodied empathy and heartfelt assistance to anyone that approached her in need. Though it was certainly unofficial, she also acted as outreach and support for many of the community’s at-risk youth during this time. Valerie was always able to find and see the good in every person and situation and encourage growth.
Valerie loved all children, all animals and the arts. She took a very special joy in becoming and being a grandmother and was rarely happier than when holding or playing with her grandson and her great-grandsons. Through her support and encouragement, Valerie intimately touched the lives of nearly everyone that she interacted with. Most days, she was the light of the world, and the person we all aspire to be. She will be sorely missed.
She is survived by her children, her siblings, their spouses, and their families: Sarah and Randy Walker, Eli Busch/Krystal Kleinschmit and Simon Busch, Leah Busch/Critter Staples, Earl and Syn-Dee Noel, Sylvia and David Douglas, and Angie Lilze.
And despite their difficulties, she never stopped caring for her estranged husband Brian, with whom she shared decades of memories.
A celebration of life will be held for Valerie at the Rotary Log Pavilion in Aberdeen, Washington on Nov. 4, 2023, from 2-6 p.m. The event will be catered but alcohol free.
