Wesley Rex Goings passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 13, 2020, in Aberdeen, Washington at the age of 76. Wes was born in Tacoma, Washington on June 4, 1943. He received his GED and joined the United States Air Force for four years during peacetime from 1961- 1965.
After serving in the Air force, Wes moved from Dallas, Texas, to Aberdeen. His father, William Goings worked for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad (BNFSE) and Wes joined his dad to work for the BNFSE Railroad for over 30 years, until his retirement in 2003.
Wes enjoyed all sports: Seattle teams — the Mariners, Seahawks and Sonics, and coached his children’s teams in Little League Baseball. His children knew that when the Seahawks were on TV, that it was time to be quiet and focus on the game. Wes loved playing cards, all kinds of games, from 5-7 card stud poker, black jack, Texas hold ’em. He shared many great times with his railroad co-workers, his son Wesley and his family while playing with quarters in the pot.
Wes enjoyed his grandchildren, teaching them new games, being silly and laughing with them was one of his favorite pastimes.
Wes and Linda took vacations to Las Vegas, Reno, California and Sun Lakes in Eastern Washington. They enjoyed camping and taking rides out to the beach.
Wes was a very generous, giving and kind man. He volunteered his time after retirement with the Hoquiam Senior Companion Program and Hoquiam Police Crime Watch. Wes was also an active member of nearly 40 years with the Eagles.
Wes loved his family. He married his first wife Cordelia, and he took over the father role of her four children. He and Cordelia had two children together and became a family of six. After Cordelia’s sudden passing, Wes met Linda and they married in 1987. The family grew from six to 12. Wes became the best father to all of his children.
Wes is survived by his wife of 32 years, Linda in Aberdeen; his children: Debbie Morley of California; Van Goings (Cynthia) of Hoquiam, Washington; John Goings of Hoquiam; Paul Goings of Cosmopolis, Washington; Gabrielle Moreno (Tom) of Lakewood, Washington; Kim Simera of Elma, Washington; Jason Simera of Aberdeen; Heather Gibbons (Brant) of Sammamish, Washington; Kyle Simera of Woodland, Washington and Jeremy Simera of Aberdeen; his brothers: Calvin Goings (Stacey) Phoenix, Arizona and Mike Goings (Chris), Aberdeen; 13 grandchildren, 13 great- grandchildren with one more on the way in Fall 2020, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Wes was preceded in death by his first wife Cordelia, sons Wesley Goings II and Greg Simera, his great granddaughter KayleeJo Brown, his parents William, Dorothy (Sweem) Goings, and his oldest brother Richard Goings.
Linda and the family would like to say an extra thank you to the Harbor Home and Hospice for the excellent care they provided to Wes in his final days.
The family is preparing to have a formal service next year in March 2021.
